!!! This makes so much sense. I become a news hound when I am stressed at work.

So insightful!!! And I want to write next about how to consume media to balance being informed with the stress it exacerbates. Not bc I’m an expert but because I’m discovering so many useful insights by asking this question of why I’m scrolling and pairing it with my clinical experience in mental health. Thanks for this share! So powerful.

This is such an interesting view on scrolling, I've never heard of that before! I'm new on Instagram and I never thought I would be sucked into it so quickly. It's like I don't see the time passing when I'm on it.

I will try to remember your advice next time I'm finding myself scrolling endlessly. Thank you!

There are so many reasons we scroll Sarah. I’m just noting this is one we don’t often talk about. The key is to be curious with ourselves instead of judgmental. Let me know what you learn!!

I'll definitely try to be more mindful about what's going on and yes, try to understand myself better by taking into account the context in which I'm doing it. That can only be helpful, so thanks again for the reflection you offer! :)

I love this post! I see so many stories about the evils of social media and how we are all being turned into dopamine junkies. I’m always skeptical of writers who use unscientific scare tactics rather than critical thinking to make a point. I especially appreciate how you don’t try to shame the reader by labeling scrolling as unilaterally bad. We can be more self aware without being punitive with ourselves. Great information 🥰🙏

Thanks Amy. I agree about the shaming! It's not helpful. Especially because we need to learn to live with the phones instead of fighting them. This point of scrolling because we may be stressed helped me so much be more curious with what I need in any moment.

So interesting - scrolling = scanning

I’m pretty sure every human with a device needs to hear this!

I know I’ll have more awareness next time, to check in with how ‘safe’ I felt before I scrolled, thank you

Thanks for the reflection, I found it incredibly helpful to just be curious as you suggest here and notice why and how I am reaching for a screen. We are only human, right? ❤️
